The latest big name to indicate their respect for another company’s success is outspoken Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. Guillemot has garnered a reputation as someone who delivers honest analyses of video game trends, and the man behind one of the most important publishers in video games didn’t hesitate to shower praise on Nintendo’s current upward trajectory during Ubisoft’s first quarter sales call:

Of course, it’s hard not to notice how much money Nintendo has been making lately with the release of Pokemon GO - the publisher’s joint effort with Niantic has already managed to make Nintendo worth more than Sony for the first time in several years, and the mobile title shows no signs of slowing down. According to Guillemot, however, Ubisoft’s respect for the Japanese gaming giant is also firmly rooted in Nintendo’s future as well:

Whatever Guillemot has seen of the NX, it has clearly left a good impression on a man who has seen a lot in his time within the world of video games. Unfortunately, gamers still don’t know much about Nintendo’s upcoming console, which was absent from E3 2016 and has left most fans to come up with their own Nintendo NX predictions in anticipation of some concrete news.

While Guillemot didn’t exclusively single out the NX - he also said Ubisoft is “really excited by the Xbox One S” - that he devoted some of the sales call to praise both the business model of Pokemon GO and Nintendo’s future console is certainly worthy of note. Nintendo will hope that fans respond as positively to the new console as Guillemot, and if the company creates a product that is only a fraction as popular as Pokemon GO, Nintendo will likely have a successful NX console.
