In a post on the official Parsec blog, the company confirmed that Ubisoft has entered into a long-term deal that will allowing the gaming company to use the Parsec SDK “to advance their game streaming efforts, embedding our tech to power in-game experiences, demos, events, and other projects.” Just this month, Ubisoft used Parsec tech for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s hands-on previews, allowing media to access a demo stored on its servers.

This may not just have an effect on the media side of things, though. Ubisoft’s vice president of online services, Stéphanie Perotti, said that Parsec’s technology will also strengthen the company’s “internal and player facing platforms.” It’s possible that Ubisoft will launch a game streaming service of its own, after seeing what Google Stadia can do. Signing a deal with Parsec also removes the huge cost of developing game streaming infrastructure.
The Parsec deal is just part of Ubisoft’s overall plan to invest in and use new technology in its games. This month, Ubisoft will also launch Hyper Scape, a multiplayer shooter that allows Twitch viewers to affect what happens in a match. What it’s doing with Hyper Scape may seem very small, but it shows an enthusiasm for not just following trends but playing an active role in setting them.
