Not only are this year’s players traveling to one of the world’s most beautiful courses at Pebble Beach, but the total purse for the U.S. Open is also the highest of any tournament.

Even more appealing is that a golfer doesn’t have to win to take home a huge payday. Even golfers on the bottom of the leaderboard take home enough money that would satisfy most average Americans for a year. Not bad for four days of “work.”

Here is how much the U.S. Open champion will make in 2019, as well as the payouts for the other finishers and a comparison to the purses at the other three majors.

What is the U.S. Open purse for 2019?

The purse for this year’s U.S. Open has been raised $500,000 to a total of $12.5 million, the most of any of the major tournaments. The women’s U.S. Open also received a matching upgrade in purse money at this year’s tournament earlier this year.

How much money does the winner get?

In 2018, Brooks Koepka won a record $2,160,000 as U.S. Open champion at Shinnecock Hills. While figures for individual payouts have not yet been made public, with the overall purse increasing $500,000, the winner’s prize will also likely increase and set a new record for the largest individual prize at a golf tournament.

The last year the U.S. Open was held at Pebble Beach in 2010, Graeme McDowell took home $1.35 million for winning. In just nine years the winner’s payout has increased by over 50 percent.

What are the U.S. Open payouts?

The following payouts are based on 2018 results. Individual payouts for this year’s tournament at Pebble Beach have not yet been made public.

What are the payouts for golf’s four majors?

Despite not having won a major this year, Rory McIlroy currently leads the PGA Tour money list with $6,700,659 in 13 events. Brooks Koepka is third on the list with $5,923,316 in 13 events. Below are the payouts for the two completed majors in 2019 and the other two from 2018.
