The Biden administration cited security concerns and social unrest in Haiti this spring when it extended temporary protections to some Haitian migrants living in the U.S. The protections were limited only to those who already were living in the U.S. before July 29, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas said that “we are very concerned that Haitians who are taking the irregular migration path are receiving misinformation that the border is open” or were mistakenly led to believe they qualified for protected status, the AP reported....

Fortenberry, a Nebraska Republican, is accused of hiding information and lying to FBI agents who were investigating an illegal $30,000 donation made by Nigerian billionaire Gilbert Chagoury during a Los Angeles fundraiser for his campaign in 2016. Prosecutors allege that Fortenberry lied to the FBI when he told them he wasn’t aware the donation came from an illegal overseas source and that he properly reported all of the donations made to his campaign....

Lezmond Mitchell, 38, a Navajo, is scheduled to be put to death on August 26 at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, Attorney General William Barr announced on Wednesday. He was among the inmates who had been originally been set to be put to death in December last year when the Trump administration restored federal executions, ending an informal moratorium that lasted 17 years. Mitchell was convicted of murder over the 2001 slayings of Alyce Slim, a 63-year-old Navajo woman, and her 9-year-old granddaughter....

President Joe Biden announced the complete withdrawal of the U.S. from Afghanistan last year, but months prior, Washington’s watchdog warned the Afghan air force would collapse without the U.S.’s aid, maintenance and training. The report from Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) John Sopko was submitted to the Department of Defense in January 2021. The report states the Afghanistan air force was not capable of surviving after the U....

The U.S. military on Friday canceled a previously scheduled test flight of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to Russia. The postponement is the second time the Pentagon has put off the planned test, signaling the U.S. is continuing to avoid nuclear escalation with Russia. The Pentagon told Newsweek in an email that the Air Force recently canceled the test flight of the LGM-30G Minuteman III missile....

The plan would look to improve awareness and training for responders while imposing new regulations to increase the availability of gun storage products. Guns were the most common method used in suicide deaths in 2019, with federal health statistics showing that they accounted for almost 24,000, or a little more than half of all deaths in the year. According to WGN 9 News in Chicago, police said the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. local time on Monday when a 39-year-old Uber driver was called for a ride at 23rd Street and 55th Avenue in Cicero, Illinois. Police said that when the 38-year-old driver arrived for the pickup, four individuals attempted to rob him and then shot him. WGN 9 News reported that the Uber driver was transported to the Loyola Hospital in critical condition....

As might be imagined, these two delays have had a significant impact on Ubisoft’s projected income for this fiscal year. CVG reports that Ubisoft’s initial forecast of $1.94 billion by the end of the 2013 fiscal year has now been adjusted down to a far more modest $1.38 billion.
